Editorial Standards

How PayoffCalc content is researched, written, checked, and corrected.

Last updated: September 26, 2026

Original, human-written content

Every article on PayoffCalc is written originally for this site — researched, drafted, and reviewed by a human editor. We do not scrape, spin, or republish content from other sites.

Research and sourcing

  • Financial concepts are explained from first principles with standard, verifiable formulas.
  • Figures that change over time (tax limits, contribution caps, fund yields, rates) are either labeled as illustrative assumptions or sourced to primary authorities such as the IRS, fund providers, or lenders — never invented.
  • When a current figure cannot be verified at publication time, the article says so and points the reader to the official source.

Review process

Before publication, each calculator page is checked for:

  1. Math correctness — formulas unit-tested against hand-computed and reference values.
  2. Working functionality — the calculator is tested in a real browser, including edge cases (zero interest, impossible payments, empty inputs).
  3. Clarity — a non-expert reader can follow the explanation.
  4. Balance — risks and limitations are stated alongside benefits.

Updates and corrections

Finance changes, so content must too. We review calculator pages periodically and after major rule changes. When we find an error, we correct it promptly and note significant corrections on the page. Readers can report errors any time via the Contact page.

Independence

PayoffCalc does not sell financial products. Editorial content is never written to favor an advertiser, lender, or fund company. If advertising or affiliate relationships are introduced, they will be disclosed on the relevant pages and will not affect calculator math or conclusions.
